Hello, and welcome to the Schelske Farm blog! We’re excited to have you join us as we embark on this journey of sustainable, regenerative farming here in the beautiful hills of Lucketts, Virginia. Whether you’re a fellow farmer, a neighbor, or simply someone interested in where their food comes from, we’re thrilled to share our story with you.
Our Beginnings
Schelske Farm was founded in 2022 by me, Ryan Schelske, and my family. After serving in the U.S. Army, I wanted to return to my roots and reconnect with the land in a meaningful way. Farming seemed like the perfect path forward—a way to not only provide for my family but also contribute to the well-being of our local community.
Our farm started small, just two acres, but it’s more than just a plot of land; it’s a vision for what farming can be. We set out to create a human-scale, sustainable farm that would prioritize the health of the soil, the animals, and the people who enjoy our products.
What We Grow
At Schelske Farm, we focus on producing high-quality, responsibly raised food. Our primary offerings include:
- Forest-Raised Heritage Pork: Our pigs roam freely in the woods, foraging and living as nature intended. This approach not only produces flavorful, nutrient-rich pork but also supports the health of our forest ecosystem.
- Free-Range Heritage Eggs: Our chickens are heritage breeds, known for their hardiness and rich-tasting eggs. They have the freedom to explore our farm, resulting in eggs that are truly something special.
- Vegetables and Greens: We grow a variety of vegetables, including microgreens and leafy greens, using sustainable farming practices that enhance soil health and deliver fresh, delicious produce.
Why Regenerative Farming?
Regenerative farming is about more than just growing food—it’s about healing the land and creating a positive impact on the environment. By focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and sustainable practices, we’re able to produce food that’s not only good for you but also good for the planet. Our farm is built on these principles, and we’re committed to continuously learning and improving as we grow.
Looking Ahead
This blog will be a place where we share updates about the farm, insights into our farming practices, and stories from our journey. We’ll also provide tips for those interested in sustainable living, recipes featuring our products, and much more. We hope you’ll find it informative, inspiring, and perhaps even a little bit entertaining!
We invite you to follow along as we continue to build Schelske Farm into a model of what small-scale, regenerative farming can achieve. Whether you’re stopping by for fresh eggs or simply curious about what we do, we’re always happy to connect with our community. Thank you for being part of our story.
Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or just want to say hello.
Until next time,
The Schelske Family
